Praying over my Marriage
Marriage is a beautiful union between two individuals, but it's not always easy. Like any relationship, it requires effort, patience, and commitment to make it work. One way to strengthen your marriage is by incorporating prayer into your daily routine. Prayer can bring a sense of peace, comfort, and guidance to your relationship, and the Bible is an excellent source of inspiration for marital prayers.
1. Pray for love and commitment
The Bible tells us that love is patient, kind, and not self-seeking. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, we read, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
You can pray for your marriage to be filled with this kind of love and commitment. Ask God to help you and your spouse be patient, kind, and understanding with one another. Pray that you both will put each other's needs above your own and that your marriage will be a shining example of the love that God intended.
2. Pray for unity
In Matthew 19:6, Jesus said, "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." Marriage is a union between two people, but it's also a union between God and those two people. Pray for unity in your marriage, that you and your spouse will be on the same page and work together as a team. Ask God to help you both put aside your differences and come together as one.
3. Pray for forgiveness
No marriage is perfect, and there will be times when you and your spouse hurt each other. The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:13, "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Pray for the strength to forgive your spouse when they've hurt you, and ask God to help your spouse forgive you when you've hurt them.
4. Pray for protection
Marriage can be challenging, and there are many things that can come against it. Pray for protection over your marriage, that it will be shielded from any harm or danger. In Psalm 91:9-10, we read, "If you say, 'The Lord is my refuge,' and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent." Ask God to be a refuge for your marriage and to protect it from any harm.
5. Pray for guidance
Lastly, pray for guidance in your marriage. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Ask God to guide you and your spouse in making wise decisions for your marriage, and to help you both submit to His will.
Incorporating prayer into your marriage can bring a sense of peace, comfort, and guidance to your relationship. By using Bible scriptures to pray over your marriage, you can strengthen your union and create a deeper connection with God and your spouse. So, take time each day to pray for your marriage, and trust that God will answer your prayers.
